The Controlled Unclassified Information Office (CUI) is an office within the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) that is responsible for overseeing the government-wide implementation of the Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) program. The CUI program was established in 2010 to provide a standardized approach to the marking, handling, and dissemination of unclassified information that requires safeguarding or dissemination controls.

The CUI Office is responsible for issuing CUI policies and guidance, developing training materials, and providing technical assistance to federal agencies on the proper handling of CUI. It also maintains the CUI Registry, which is a online database that contains the CUI categories, subcategories, and markings that are authorized for use by federal agencies.

The CUI program is designed to improve the management of unclassified information that is sensitive but not classified, such as personally identifiable information (PII), proprietary business information, and law enforcement sensitive information. The CUI Office works closely with federal agencies to ensure that CUI is handled properly and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
