The Lost World: Jurassic Park is a 1997 American science-fiction adventure film directed by Steven Spielberg and the sequel to the 1993 film Jurassic Park. It is based on the novel of the same name by Michael Crichton.
The film takes place four years after the events of the first film and follows Dr. Ian Malcolm (played by Jeff Goldblum) as he leads a team of scientists to Isla Sorna, a nearby island where the dinosaurs from the original park were bred and raised. The team's mission is to study the animals in their natural habitat and document their behavior, but they soon find themselves in danger when they discover that a rival group has arrived on the island with the intention of capturing the dinosaurs and taking them back to the mainland.
The Lost World features groundbreaking visual effects that were ahead of their time, and the film was praised for its thrilling action sequences and impressive dinosaur animatronics. It grossed over $600 million at the box office and was a commercial success, though it received mixed reviews from critics who felt that it was not as engaging as the original film.
Despite its mixed reception, The Lost World remains a popular and influential film in the Jurassic Park franchise, and its success paved the way for two more sequels and a reboot of the series.
