The Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency (CIGIE) is an independent entity within the executive branch of the United States government. It was established in 2008 by the Inspector General Reform Act. The CIGIE is composed of all of the Inspectors General (IGs) of the various agencies of the federal government. The primary function of the CIGIE is to enhance the integrity, efficiency, and effectiveness of the federal government by promoting integrity, economy, efficiency, and effectiveness in the administration of, and preventing and detecting fraud and abuse in, the programs and operations of the federal government. It also provides a forum for the IGs to share information and best practices, and to coordinate their efforts to address issues of common concern.
