The American Hockey League (AHL) is the top professional ice hockey league in North America outside of the National Hockey League (NHL). Established in 1936, the AHL serves as a development league for the NHL and is home to many of the top young players in the game.
With 32 teams located in the United States and Canada, the AHL is divided into two conferences – the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference – and four divisions within each conference. The league has a 76-game regular season schedule, with the playoffs culminating in the Calder Cup championship.
