The Ares I-X mission was a test flight of the Ares I rocket, which was being developed by the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) as part of the Constellation program. The Constellation program was a human spaceflight program that aimed to return humans to the Moon and eventually send them to Mars.
The Ares I-X mission was launched on October 28, 2009, from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. It was the first test flight of the Ares I rocket, and its primary goal was to evaluate the performance of the rocket's first stage and its abort system. The mission also tested new avionics and software, as well as the rocket's ground systems and launch procedures.
The Ares I-X mission was successful, and the rocket performed as expected during the flight. However, the Constellation program was later cancelled by the Obama administration, and the development of the Ares I rocket was terminated. The Ares I-X mission was the only test flight of the Ares I rocket, and it remains the last flight of a NASA-developed crew launch vehicle.
