The national flag of Austria consists of three equal horizontal bands of color. The top and bottom bands are red, while the middle band is white.
The red and white colors have been associated with Austria for centuries and were used in the coat of arms of the Babenberg dynasty, which ruled Austria from the 10th to the 13th centuries.
The Austrian flag is one of the oldest national flags in the world, dating back to the 13th century. However, the current design of the flag was officially adopted on May 1, 1945, after World War II, when Austria was reestablished as an independent republic.
