The Bundesliga is the top professional soccer league in Germany

It was founded in 1963 and currently consists of 18 teams. The league operates on a system of promotion and relegation, with the bottom two teams in the Bundesliga being relegated to the 2. Bundesliga and the top two teams from the 2. Bundesliga being promoted to the Bundesliga.

Bundesliga is the general name of the German football leagues. Although the Bundesliga essentially covers all football leagues in Germany, it is commonly used to describe the top tier football league. Bundesliga literally means Federal League. Consisting of 18 teams, the Bundesliga is considered one of the top 5 leagues across Europe. At the end of the season, the teams in the last 2 places are directly relegated, while the third team from the bottom plays a play-out match with the third place in the lower league to stay in the league.
