Chi-Chis (stylized as Chi-Chi's) was a Mexican-themed restaurant chain that was founded in the United States in 1975. The chain was known for its Tex-Mex cuisine, including dishes such as enchiladas, tacos, and burritos. Chi-Chis also served margaritas and other cocktails, and featured a festive atmosphere with live music and colorful decorations.
At its peak, Chi-Chis had over 200 locations across the United States, as well as locations in Canada and Europe. However, the chain struggled in the 1990s due to increased competition from other Mexican restaurant chains, as well as food safety concerns related to a hepatitis A outbreak at a Chi-Chis location in Pennsylvania in 2003. The chain filed for bankruptcy in 2004 and closed its remaining locations shortly thereafter.
Today, the Chi-Chis brand is owned by Hormel Foods, which produces a line of Chi-Chis-branded salsas, dips, and tortilla chips that are sold in grocery stores.
