The Chicago and North Western Railway (C&NW) was a Class I railroad in the United States that operated from 1848 to 1995. It served the Midwest region of the country, with a network of lines that extended from Chicago, Illinois, to the Dakotas, Nebraska, and Minnesota. The C&NW was known for its fast and reliable freight service, as well as its passenger trains, including the Twin Cities 400 and the Hiawatha. The C&NW was a major transportation company in the region and played a significant role in the economic development of the Midwest. It merged with Union Pacific Railroad in 1995 and is now a part of the Union Pacific system.
