Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi (CHP) is a political party in Turkey. It was founded in 1923 by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and is the oldest political party in the country. CHP is a center-left party that espouses secular and republican values, and it has traditionally been associated with Kemalist ideology. The party has a strong base of support among the urban middle class, and it has traditionally been the main opposition party in Turkey.
