
Chris Christie is an American politician who served as the 55th Governor of New Jersey from 2010 to 2018. A member of the Republican Party, he previously served as the United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey from 2002 to 2008.
Christie was born in Newark, New Jersey, and raised in Livingston. He graduated from the University of Delaware and Seton Hall University School of Law. After law school, he worked as a federal prosecutor in the United States Attorney's Office for the District of New Jersey. In 2002, President George W. Bush appointed Christie as the United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey. He served in that position until 2008.
In 2009, Christie announced his candidacy for Governor of New Jersey. He defeated incumbent Democrat Jon Corzine in the general election. As governor, Christie implemented a number of conservative policies, including tax cuts, reforms to the state's pension system, and a reduction in the size of state government. He also oversaw the rebuilding efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
In 2016, Christie was a candidate for the Republican nomination for President of the United States. He suspended his campaign after losing the New Hampshire primary. After the election, Christie was a vocal critic of President Donald Trump. He has since become a more moderate Republican, and has been mentioned as a potential candidate for President in 2024.
