The Deutsche Eishockey Liga (German Ice Hockey League, or DEL) is the highest level of professional ice hockey in Germany. It was founded in 1994 and currently consists of 14 teams. The league is organized by the Deutscher Eishockey-Bund (German Ice Hockey Association).

The DEL operates on a franchise system, similar to the model used in North American professional sports leagues. Each team is owned by a private company and operates as a separate business. The teams are located in cities across Germany, with the majority being in the south and west of the country.

The DEL season runs from September to April, with each team playing a total of 52 games. The top eight teams advance to the playoffs, which are held in a best-of-seven format. The winner of the playoffs is crowned the DEL champion.

Some of the most successful teams in the DEL include Eisbären Berlin, Adler Mannheim, and Kölner Haie.
