Dime Savings Bank of New York was a savings bank that was based in New York City. The bank was founded in 1864 and was known for its strong presence in the Brooklyn area. The bank grew to become one of the largest savings banks in New York City, with branches throughout the city and a strong focus on the Brooklyn market. In 2002, Dime Savings Bank of New York was acquired by Washington Mutual, which later failed in 2008 and was sold to JPMorgan Chase. Today, Dime Savings Bank of New York no longer exists as an independent institution, but its legacy and history can be found at the JPMorgan Chase.
