On January 27, 2025, FIBA and the Local Organizing Committee unveiled the official brand and logo for the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027, marking the first time this prestigious tournament will be hosted in the Middle East. The brand identity draws inspiration from the traditional Qatari Bisht, a garment symbolizing pride and achievement, which is depicted wrapping around the James Naismith Trophy. This design merges Qatar's cultural heritage with the global passion for basketball.
The Bisht's three traditional colors—White, Brown, and Black—represent different phases of the basketball journey. The White Bisht signifies peace, unity, and new beginnings, reflecting the energy of the qualifying tournaments. The Brown Bisht embodies strength and endurance, essential qualities for advancing to the finals. The Black Bisht symbolizes triumph, legacy, and celebration, representing the pinnacle where champions emerge and memories are made.
The tournament's slogan, "Step It Up," serves as a call to action for players, fans, and the host nation to elevate the game to new heights. It emphasizes determination, resilience, and unity, aligning with the shared ambition of Qatar and FIBA to create a transformative tournament that will leave a lasting legacy for basketball worldwide.
FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis expressed excitement about this stage of the journey to Qatar, highlighting the branding's unique identity and its potential to inspire fans globally. Mohammed Saad Al-Meghaiseeb, Director General of the Local Organizing Committee, emphasized the logo's celebration of Qatari and Arab culture, reflecting Qatar's commitment to showcasing its heritage on the global stage through this prestigious sporting event.
The FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027 is scheduled to take place from August 27 to September 12, 2027. For the first time in the tournament's history, all games will be held in a single city, allowing fans to attend multiple matches per day with minimal travel. Thirty-two teams will compete across four venues, with the final match set to be played in Lusail Arena. The Qatar national team will make its second World Cup appearance, having previously competed in 2006 in Japan.
