Francis Xavier Suarez (born October 6, 1977) is an American lawyer and politician who has served as the 43rd mayor of Miami, Florida, since 2017. He is a registered Republican, but the office of the Miami mayor is nonpartisan. He previously served as City of Miami Commissioner for District 4, a position he held since he was elected in a runoff election on November 17, 2009. Suarez is the son of former Miami mayor and former Miami-Dade County Commissioner Xavier Suarez.
Suarez was born in Miami to Cuban parents. He graduated from Belen Jesuit Preparatory School in 1995 and from Harvard University in 1999, where he majored in government. After graduating from Harvard, Suarez worked as a law clerk for Judge Michael A. Greco of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. He then worked as an associate at the law firm of Holland & Knight LLP.
In 2009, Suarez was elected to the Miami City Commission. He was re-elected in 2013 and 2017. In 2017, Suarez was elected mayor of Miami. He was re-elected in 2021.
