The Parti de Gauche (Left Party) is a left-wing political party in France. The party was founded in 2009 by Jean-Luc Mélenchon, a former member of the Socialist Party (PS) and leader of the Left Front political alliance.
The Parti de Gauche advocates for left-wing and progressive policies, including the expansion of social welfare programs, the protection of workers' rights, and the fight against inequality. The party is a member of the European United Left–Nordic Green Left group in the European Parliament.
In the 2012 and 2017 presidential elections, Mélenchon ran as the Parti de Gauche's candidate and finished in fourth and third place, respectively. The party has also had some success in parliamentary elections, winning several seats in the National Assembly. However, it remains a relatively small political force in France.
