The Grand Rapids Griffins are a professional ice hockey team based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States. They are a member of the American Hockey League (AHL), the top development league for the National Hockey League (NHL). The Griffins were founded in 1996 and are an affiliate of the NHL's Detroit Red Wings. They play their home games at the Van Andel Arena.
The Griffins have a dedicated fan base and are known for their skilled and hard-working style of play. The team has had a successful history, winning the Calder Cup, the AHL's championship trophy, twice and making it to the Calder Cup Finals on several other occasions.
