The Grüne Partei der DDR (Green Party of the GDR) was a political party in East Germany (the German Democratic Republic or GDR) that was founded in 1990. The party was formed as a merger of several smaller environmental and green political organizations, and it was the first political party in the GDR to be based on a political ideology rather than a state-sponsored organization.

The Grüne Partei der DDR was a progressive party that advocated for environmental protection, social justice, and political reform. The party was part of the political opposition in the GDR, and it was critical of the ruling communist government and its policies.

In 1990, the Grüne Partei der DDR participated in the first free elections in the GDR, and it won seats in the new parliament (the Volkskammer). However, the party was unable to gain significant support from the public, and it did not play a major role in the political transition from communism to democracy in East Germany.

After the reunification of Germany in 1990, the Grüne Partei der DDR merged with the West German Green Party to form the national German Green Party (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen). Today, the German Green Party is one of the major political parties in Germany.
