The Irish Prison Service (IPS) is a government agency that is responsible for the management and operation of the prison system in Ireland. The IPS is part of the Irish Department of Justice and is responsible for the management and administration of all prisons in the Republic of Ireland. The IPS is responsible for the care and rehabilitation of prisoners, as well as the management of security and safety within the prisons.
The IPS operates 14 prisons across the country, including both closed and open centers, the prison service also manages 4 training centers and a number of community return centers. The IPS operates a progressive rehabilitation system, which includes a range of education, training, and work programs aimed at reducing recidivism and helping prisoners reintegrate into society. The IPS is also responsible for the provision of healthcare services to prisoners, as well as the management of prisoners' welfare and rights.
