Monopoly is a popular board game that was first introduced in the United States in 1935. The game is designed for two to eight players and is based on the concept of real estate trading. The objective of the game is to become the wealthiest player through buying, renting, and trading properties.
The game board consists of 40 spaces, including 28 properties, two utility spaces, and four railroad spaces. There are also various other spaces such as Chance and Community Chest cards, Income Tax, Luxury Tax, Jail, and Free Parking.
Each player starts with a set amount of money and takes turns rolling two dice to move around the board. When a player lands on an unowned property, they have the option to buy it. If they choose not to buy it, the property can be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Once a player owns a property, they can build houses and hotels on it to increase its value and rent.
Players can also land on spaces that require them to draw Chance or Community Chest cards, which can result in rewards or penalties. Landing on certain spaces, such as Go and Free Parking, also result in receiving additional money.
The game continues until only one player remains, who is declared the winner. The game has been adapted into many different versions and variations over the years, including electronic and themed versions.
