Motorenwerk Cunewalde VEB was a state-owned automobile engine manufacturing company in East Germany (the German Democratic Republic or GDR). The company was founded in 1953 and was based in Cunewalde, a town in the state of Saxony.
Motorenwerk Cunewalde VEB was one of the largest and most important automobile engine manufacturers in the GDR, and it produced engines for a variety of vehicles, including cars, trucks, and buses. The company employed thousands of people, and it was an important contributor to the GDR's economy.
In 1990, after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of Germany, Motorenwerk Cunewalde VEB was dissolved and its assets were sold to private companies. Today, the company no longer exists, and the production of automobile engines in Germany is handled by a number of different private companies.
