Pixies is an American rock band that was formed in 1986 in Boston, Massachusetts. The band's original lineup consisted of Black Francis (vocals, guitar), Joey Santiago (guitar), Kim Deal (bass, vocals), and David Lovering (drums). Pixies' music is known for its combination of loud, distorted guitars, surreal and abstract lyrics, and dynamic shifts in tempo and volume.
Pixies released their first EP, Come on Pilgrim, in 1987, and followed it with their debut full-length album, Surfer Rosa, in 1988. The band's early albums were critically acclaimed, and their distinctive sound and style influenced a number of other musicians and bands. Pixies' music was described as "loud, fast, and funny" by Rolling Stone, and the band was praised for their unique blend of punk, surf, and indie rock.
Pixies' popularity reached its peak in the early 1990s, with the release of their albums Doolittle (1989) and Bossanova (1990). The band's music was featured on the soundtrack of the 1991 film Point Break, and they performed on popular television shows such as Saturday Night Live and Late Night with David Letterman. In 1993, Pixies disbanded, and the band members pursued other musical projects.
In 2004, Pixies reunited and began touring again, and have released several new albums since then. The band's reunion tours have been successful, and Pixies continue to be highly regarded and influential in the music industry. In 2013, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
