Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA) is a public university located in Nacogdoches, Texas, USA. The university was founded in 1923 and is named after Stephen F. Austin, who is considered the "Father of Texas" for his role in leading the first Anglo-American colonization of the region in the 19th century.

SFA offers over 120 undergraduate and graduate degree programs across six colleges, including the Nelson Rusche College of Business, the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture, and the College of Fine Arts, among others. The university is known for its programs in education, forestry, and fine arts.

SFA has a diverse student population, with over 13,000 students from all 50 states and more than 45 countries. The university is also home to a number of research centers and institutes, including the Pineywoods Native Plant Center and the Texas National Research Laboratory Commission.

The SFA Lumberjacks compete in NCAA Division I athletics, with teams in sports such as football, basketball, baseball, and track and field. The university is a member of the Southland Conference and has a longstanding rivalry with nearby Sam Houston State University.
