The Space Shuttle was a spacecraft that was used by NASA for space travel and exploration. It was the first reusable spacecraft and was used for a variety of missions, including carrying astronauts and cargo to and from low Earth orbit and conducting repair and construction missions on the International Space Station (ISS).
The Space Shuttle was operational from 1981 to 2011 and consisted of a winged orbiter spacecraft, two solid rocket boosters, and an external fuel tank. The orbiter was the main part of the Space Shuttle and was designed to carry a crew of up to seven astronauts, as well as cargo and scientific experiments. The solid rocket boosters provided the initial thrust to lift the Space Shuttle off the ground, and the external fuel tank provided the fuel for the orbiter's main engines.
The Space Shuttle conducted a total of 135 missions during its 30-year operational period. It was used to launch and repair satellites, conduct scientific experiments, and carry out construction missions on the ISS. The Space Shuttle was retired in 2011, and NASA has since relied on other spacecraft, such as the Soyuz and SpaceX's Crew Dragon, to carry out its space exploration missions.
