STS-108 was a Space Shuttle mission to the International Space Station (ISS) flown by Space Shuttle Endeavour. The mission launched on December 5, 2001, and was the twelfth shuttle mission to visit the ISS. The primary objective of the mission was to bring supplies and equipment to the ISS and to rotate the crew of the ISS. The mission also included the installation of a new gyroscope on the station.
The STS-108 mission patch features the Space Shuttle Endeavour with the International Space Station in the foreground and the Earth in the background. The patch also includes the mission slogan "United We Stand" and the names of the seven crew members.
During the mission, the crew of Endeavour delivered more than 3,000 pounds of supplies and equipment to the ISS, including a new gyroscope and a replacement water pump. They also rotated the crew of the ISS, bringing back the Expedition 3 crew and delivering the Expedition 4 crew to the station. The mission was considered a success and helped to maintain the operations of the ISS during a time of increased security concerns following the September 11th attacks.
