STS-116 was a Space Shuttle mission to the International Space Station (ISS) flown by Space Shuttle Discovery. The mission launched on December 9, 2006, and was the fifteenth shuttle mission to visit the ISS. The primary objective of the mission was to install the P5 (P-five) Truss, which would provide additional structural support and a mounting point for solar arrays, radiators, and other equipment on the ISS. The mission also included the delivery of supplies and equipment to the ISS and the rotation of the crew of the ISS.
The STS-116 mission patch features the Space Shuttle Discovery with the International Space Station in the foreground and the Earth in the background. The patch also includes the mission slogan "Building on Success" and the names of the seven crew members.
During the mission, the crew of Discovery successfully installed the P5 Truss on the ISS and delivered more than 4,000 pounds of supplies and equipment to the station. They also rotated the crew of the ISS, bringing back the Expedition 14 crew and delivering the Expedition 15 crew to the station. The mission was considered a success and helped to further the construction and expansion of the ISS.
