STS-121 was a Space Shuttle mission to the International Space Station (ISS) flown by Space Shuttle Discovery. The mission launched on July 4, 2006, and was the fourteenth shuttle mission to visit the ISS. The primary objective of the mission was to deliver and install the P3/P4 (P-three/P-four) Truss, which would provide additional structural support and a mounting point for solar arrays, radiators, and other equipment on the ISS. The mission also included the delivery of supplies and equipment to the ISS and the rotation of the crew of the ISS.

The STS-121 crew consisted of seven astronauts, led by Commander Steven Lindsey. The crew also included Pilot Mark Kelly and Mission Specialists Michael Fossum, Lisa Nowak, Piers Sellers, Stephanie Wilson, and Thomas Reiter.

During the mission, the crew of Discovery successfully delivered and installed the P3/P4 Truss on the ISS and delivered more than 4,000 pounds of supplies and equipment to the station. They also rotated the crew of the ISS, bringing back the Expedition 13 crew and delivering the Expedition 14 crew to the station. The mission included three spacewalks to perform maintenance and repair work on the ISS.

The STS-121 mission was considered a success and helped to further the construction and expansion of the ISS. It marked the return to flight of the Space Shuttle program after the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster in 2003.
