STS-127 was a Space Shuttle mission to the International Space Station (ISS) flown by Space Shuttle Endeavour. The mission launched on July 15, 2009, and was the nineteenth shuttle mission to visit the ISS. The primary objective of the mission was to deliver and install the Japanese Experiment Module - Exposed Facility (JEM-EF) and the Japanese Experiment Module - Pressurized Module (JEM-PM) to the ISS. The JEM-EF and JEM-PM, also known as the Kibo complex, were the largest elements of the ISS contributed by Japan. The mission also included the delivery of supplies and equipment to the ISS and the rotation of the crew of the ISS.

The STS-127 crew consisted of seven astronauts, led by Commander Mark Polansky. The crew also included Pilot Doug Hurley and Mission Specialists Julie Payette, Tom Marshburn, Dave Wolf, Christopher Cassidy, and Tim Kopra.

During the mission, the crew of Endeavour successfully delivered and installed the JEM-EF and JEM-PM to the ISS. They also delivered more than 10,000 pounds of supplies and equipment to the station and rotated the crew of the ISS, bringing back the Expedition 20 crew and delivering the Expedition 21 crew to the station. The mission included five spacewalks to perform maintenance and repair work on the ISS.

The STS-127 mission was considered a success and helped to further the construction and expansion of the ISS. It marked the completion of the major assembly of the ISS and marked the beginning of the operational phase of the station.
