The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is an agency within the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) that is responsible for improving the safety of the country's highways and vehicles. The NHTSA works to reduce deaths, injuries, and property damage from motor vehicle crashes by setting safety standards for vehicles and traffic control devices, conducting research on safety issues, and promoting safety awareness and education programs.
