The National Park Service (NPS) is an agency within the United States Department of the Interior that is responsible for the management and conservation of the country's national parks and other protected areas. The NPS was established in 1916 to preserve and protect the natural, cultural, and historical resources of these areas for the enjoyment of present and future generations.
The NPS oversees a diverse network of national parks, monuments, battlefields, historic sites, and other protected areas that span more than 84 million acres across the United States.
