The Tyne and Wear Metro is a public light rail rapid transport system which operates over and underground across Tyne and Wear. Opened in 1980 and extended to Sunderland in 2001. There are 60 stations on the network. Serving Newcastle city centre, Sunderland city centre, Newcastle Airport and the seafronts at North and South Tyneside.
