The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is a U.S. federal agency under the Department of Defense, and is primarily responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the country's infrastructure, including water resource management and flood control. The USACE is organized into eight permanent divisions, as well as several temporary and specialized units.
The USACE headquarters is located in Washington D.C, where the chief of engineers and the command staff are based. The headquarters is responsible for the overall management and direction of the USACE, as well as the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and programs. It also manages the budget, serves as the principal liaison with other government agencies, and develops plans and strategies for responding to natural disasters and other emergencies. It is also home to the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works and the Office of the Chief of Engineers, which provide oversight and guidance for the rest of the organization.
