The National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) is a program of the United States government that is focused on reducing the risks and impacts of earthquakes. It is administered by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), which is a part of the U.S. Department of Commerce. The NEHRP was established in 1977 and is responsible for coordinating the efforts of federal agencies, state and local governments, and other stakeholders to reduce the risks and impacts of earthquakes.
The NEHRP works to improve our understanding of earthquakes and the risks they pose, and develops technologies and approaches to reduce the risks and impacts of earthquakes. The NEHRP also supports research on earthquake engineering and develops building codes and standards to ensure that structures are designed and constructed to be resistant to earthquakes. The NEHRP also provides funding for emergency preparedness and response efforts, and works with state and local governments to develop and implement emergency plans
