Will Hurd is an American politician and former CIA clandestine officer who served as the U.S. representative for Texas's 23rd congressional district from 2015 to 2021. He is a member of the Republican Party.
Hurd was born in San Antonio, Texas, in 1977. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 2000 with a degree in political science. After college, he joined the CIA and served for nine years as an operations officer in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India. He speaks Urdu, the national language of Pakistan.
In 2010, Hurd ran for Congress in Texas's 23rd congressional district. He lost the runoff primary to Pete Gallego. In 2014, he ran again and won. The district stretched approximately 550 miles (890 km) from San Antonio to El Paso along the U.S.-Mexican border. He was re-elected in 2016 and again in 2018, but did not seek re-election in 2020.
During his congressional tenure, Hurd became known for his expertise in technology and cybersecurity as well as for his bipartisanship. He was a member of the House Intelligence Committee and the House Homeland Security Committee. He was also the co-chair of the Congressional Cybersecurity Caucus.
In 2023, Hurd announced his candidacy for president of the United States. He is the only African-American Republican in the race.
Hurd is married and has two children. He is a member of the Church of Christ.
