Ernesto "Che" Guevara was an Argentine Marxist revolutionary, physician, author, and military theorist who played a key role in the Cuban Revolution of the 1950s and 1960s. Born in Rosario, Argentina, in 1928, Guevara became politically active in his youth, and he later joined the 26th of July Movement, a group of revolutionaries led by Fidel Castro that sought to overthrow the regime of Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista.

Guevara played a significant role in the guerrilla warfare tactics employed by the rebels during the Cuban Revolution, and after the revolution succeeded in 1959, he held several high-ranking positions in the new government, including minister of industry and president of the National Bank of Cuba. However, in 1965, Guevara left Cuba to lead a guerrilla insurgency in Bolivia, where he was captured and executed by the Bolivian army in 1967.

Guevara's legacy as a revolutionary and his iconic image, often depicted in a stylized portrait by Alberto Korda, have made him a symbol of anti-imperialism and leftist ideology around the world. His writings, including "The Motorcycle Diaries" and "Guerrilla Warfare," continue to be widely read and studied, and his ideas about social justice, anti-colonialism, and Marxist theory have influenced generations of activists and revolutionaries.
