Demokratischer Aufbruch (Democratic Awakening) was a political movement in East Germany that emerged in the late 1980s and played a significant role in the peaceful revolution that led to the reunification of Germany in 1990.
The movement was founded in 1989 by a group of East German dissidents who sought to bring about political change in the country through nonviolent means. It was one of several groups that emerged during this time to challenge the ruling Communist Party and demand greater political freedom and democracy.
The Demokratischer Aufbruch movement was particularly active in the city of Leipzig, where its members organized regular protests and demonstrations. These protests attracted widespread attention and support, and helped to build momentum for the broader pro-democracy movement.
