Dünya Katılım Bankası A.Ş. was initially founded in 1984 under the name Adabank A.Ş. and began its banking operations in 1985. On July 25, 2003, the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BRSA) transferred the bank to the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (SDIF). Subsequently, 96.6% of its shares were sold through an auction process and acquired by AHL Ahlatcı Finansal Yönetim A.Ş.
On November 23, 2023, the BRSA decided to change the bank’s operating model to participation banking. This decision was published in the Official Gazette on November 28, 2023, and came into effect shortly thereafter. As of December 26, 2023, the bank officially began operating under the name Dünya Katılım Bankası A.Ş.
The bank is the only private, locally owned participation bank in Turkey with a branch-based structure. It operates under Ahlatcı Holding, a Çorum-based conglomerate active in 10 sectors, including energy, healthcare, precious metals, finance, advanced technologies, automotive, aviation, mining, real estate, and manufacturing. Ahlatcı Holding comprises 61 companies and employs over 5,000 people.
The bank’s headquarters is located in Istanbul, and as of 2024, it employs around 200 staff. Dünya Katılım Bankası focuses on integrating unutilized funds into the economy while safeguarding the savings of its customers.
