The NASA Launch Services Program (LSP) is a program within the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) that is responsible for managing the launch of NASA payloads into space. The LSP is responsible for procuring and managing launch services from commercial and international partners, as well as providing technical oversight of launch preparations and operations.
The LSP works with a variety of launch providers, including United Launch Alliance, SpaceX, and Arianespace, to secure launch services for NASA payloads. These payloads can include scientific instruments, exploration missions, and other spacecraft and vehicles that are used to support NASA's mission to explore and understand the universe.
In addition to procuring launch services, the LSP also provides technical oversight to ensure the safety and success of NASA launches. This includes reviewing and approving launch plans and procedures, providing technical guidance to launch providers, and monitoring launches from the ground.
The LSP is based at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida and is a part of the Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate within NASA. It plays a vital role in enabling NASA to achieve its exploration goals and advance our understanding of the universe.
