STS-41C was a NASA Space Shuttle mission that was launched on April 6, 1984. It was the 11th flight of the Space Shuttle Challenger and the first mission to repair and upgrade a satellite in orbit. The main objective of the mission was to repair the faulty Solar Maximum Mission satellite, which had been launched in 1980 to study the Sun but had stopped functioning properly. The crew of STS-41C successfully repaired the satellite, which was renamed the Solar Max satellite, and deployed a number of other satellites during the mission. The mission lasted just over a week, ending with a successful landing at Kennedy Space Center on April 13, 1984.
