The United States Department of Defense (DOD) is a federal agency responsible for coordinating and supervising all agencies and functions of the government relating directly to national security and the United States armed forces. The Department of Defense is led by the Secretary of Defense, who is a member of the President's Cabinet and is appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate.
