The United States Bicentennial Star was a commemorative medal that was issued by the United States government to recognize the 200th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1976. The medal was designed by R.S. Jones and was authorized by Congress as part of the United States Bicentennial celebrations.
The Bicentennial Star medal was made of bronze and featured the image of the Liberty Bell on the obverse, with the inscription "1776-1976" and the words "United States Bicentennial" around the edge. The reverse of the medal featured the Great Seal of the United States, surrounded by the words "In God We Trust" and "E Pluribus Unum."
The Bicentennial Star was distributed by the National Park Service, and was awarded to individuals and organizations that contributed to the Bicentennial celebrations or demonstrated outstanding service to their community. Over two million medals were awarded, making it one of the most widely distributed medals in American history.
