The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is the national assembly of the bishops of the Catholic Church in the United States. The organization was established in 1966 and is composed of all active and retired bishops of the Catholic Church in the United States. The USCCB is responsible for promoting the pastoral teaching of the Catholic Church in the United States, and for representing the Church to the United States government and other national and international organizations.
The USCCB has a number of committees and subcommittees that focus on specific areas of concern, such as marriage and family life, religious freedom, and the protection of human life. The organization also publishes a number of resources and documents, such as the United States Catholic Catechism for Adults and the USCCB website, which provides information on the Church's teachings and activities.
The USCCB is headquartered in Washington D.C. and is led by the President of the Conference, currently Archbishop José H. Gomez of Los Angeles. The Conference meets annually in November for its General Assembly, where the bishops discuss and vote on important issues affecting the Church in the United States.
