Yeni Malatyaspor was founded in 1986 as Malatya Belediyespor and its colors were adopted as orange-green. Malatya Belediyespor achieved a great success by moving from the amateur division to the 2nd League within 2 seasons. It achieved this success first by being promoted to the 3rd League in 1997-1998, and then one season later by becoming the champion of the 3rd League in the 1998-1999 season and reaching the 2nd League.
In the 1999-2000 season, it finished last in its group in the 2nd League and was relegated to the 3rd League, and in the 2000-2001 season it was relegated from the 3rd League to the Amateur League.
In the 2006-2007 season, Malatya Belediyespor was promoted from the Amateur League to the 3rd League, and in 2007-2008 it finished 2nd in the 3rd League 1st Group with averages and qualified to play in the 2nd League. In the same season, it was relegated to the 3rd League. In the 2009-2010 season, under the management of Tek.Dir. Nihat Balan, Malatya Belediyespor returned to the second league through the play-offs and changed its name to Yeni Malatyaspor. With the congress dated 12 May 2012, the name was changed from Yeni Malatyaspor to Malatyaspor Football Club and the colors were changed to yellow-red, but the name change was not approved by the TFF due to UEFA criteria. Finally, it was decided to continue with the name Yeni Malatyaspor. As stated on the official website of our club, the official colors are yellow-black and the third color is red.
In the 2014-15 season, our team completed the TFF 2nd Division White Group as champion and was promoted to the 1st League for the first time in its history. Before the 2015-16 season, Sunday Mba was added to our squad, the first foreign player transfer in the club's history.
In the 2016-2017 season, the club finished 2nd in the 1st League and was promoted to the Super League.
