The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) is a government agency in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) responsible for the development and regulation of the country's municipal and transport sectors. The department was established in 1972 and is headquartered in Abu Dhabi.
The DMT's mandate is to provide effective and efficient municipal and transport services that support the social and economic development of the UAE. To achieve this, the department works to plan, develop, and manage the country's urban and transport infrastructure and to regulate the municipal and transport sectors.
The DMT is responsible for formulating and implementing policies and strategies related to the municipal and transport sectors in the UAE. It also works to ensure the compliance of these sectors with national and international standards and to promote sustainable development in these areas.
The DMT is led by a director general who is appointed by the Minister of Infrastructure Development. The department has a number of divisions and agencies that carry out its various functions, including the Abu Dhabi Department of Transport, the Sharjah Department of Municipalities and Agriculture, and the Ajman Department of Municipal Affairs.
