The National Network for Safe Communities (NNSC) is a program of John Jay College of Criminal Justice. The program was founded in 2009, and is based in New York City. The NNSC is a national initiative that works with cities, law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders to reduce violence and improve public safety.
The NNSC focuses on implementing evidence-based strategies and practices that have been shown to be effective in reducing violence and improving public safety. This includes initiatives such as focused deterrence, which targets the small number of individuals and groups responsible for the majority of violence in a community, and community engagement, which involves working with community members to identify and address the root causes of violence.
The NNSC provides training, technical assistance, and other support to cities and law enforcement agencies that are implementing these strategies. The program also conducts research and evaluation, to help identify best practices and measure the effectiveness of different approaches. The goal of the NNSC is to help cities and communities reduce violence and improve public safety, and to promote safer, more just, and more equitable communities.
